Here Jeff, Here Jeff. Have You Seen Jeff?

Dateline Dayton — As I mentioned last week, the electrician was to be at our new condo on Thursday to install a track light near the fireplace.  I received a confirmation call on Wednesday. Jeff would arrive between 8:15 and 8:30.  I was there before 8. At 9, the owner of the company called. They were unable to locate Jeff.

This was disappointing for two reasons. We were having the carpets cleaned on Friday, and we wanted the light installed prior to the cleaning, Next, Jeff is a qualified electrician.  A responsible 34-year-old who was sick would have texted the company.  For unknown reasons, the company did not receive his text.

Since you must rent a truck for two days, if you take it on Saturday, I opted for the one- day plan, Friday noon until Saturday noon.  After my dental appointment, I got the truck. My son Chris and I loaded the small stuff in the afternoon.

The carpet was cleaned on Friday. Chris started the moving-in process early on Saturday, getting all the lamps transferred.  He already had his clothes moved, and all kitchen items were in place.

When his help arrived at 8 o’clock, the rest of his furniture was loaded. By 9, we were on our way to the condo.  His help unloaded the truck. Chris and I moved the items into the unit to avoid excessive foot traffic on the clean carpets.  By 10:30, we were on our way back to the rental agency.

Since his couch would not make the turn in his condo, his helpers knew someone who needed a couch. They took it with them.  Saturday evening he purchased a new couch, with Mom helping to pick a good one for the price.

Fortunately, he purchased his new couch at the store that is known for furniture that you must put together. Otherwise the two of us never would have gotten it up the steps on Sunday.  Four pieces are easier.  It was not  difficult to assemble.

Wednesday the electrician came in the morning. In the afternoon I entertained the locksmith, the dishwasher repair man and the cable guy.

Chris is really getting the condo in order, and it does look nice.

Tuesday was Election Day.  We voted in our new precinct for the first time, and there was a fair crowd at 6:30 a.m. for an off year election.  I am proud to say all my state, federal and issue votes were for winners, with the exception of the Ohio School Board.  I didn't do very well in Montgomery County, but that isn't unusual.
