The VA Has No Choice – Beiter Must Go

Fellow Veterans and Friends of Veterans,

Donna M. Beiter, who has managed the Los Angeles VA for the last six years, is “extremely concerned” about the recent Government Accountability Office report (attached). It found widespread mismanagement, including under-billing of land use agreements and improper diversion of funds involving nine real estate deals with third-party non-Veteran entities that are “unauthorized by law and therefore void.”

She should be concerned, but not for the reasons she falsely alludes to in this press release posted on the Los Angeles VA website:

GAO Report on VA Land Use (http://www.losangeles.va.gov/)

“I am extremely concerned about the findings of process and oversight deficiencies in our land use program, as identified in the recent Government Accountability Office (GAO) report. Clearly, this report brought to light significant vulnerabilities that are unacceptable. To correct this situation, I am working with our Network and Veterans Health Administration leadership to take swift and decisive action on each and every finding in this report. Our core mission is providing our Veterans with the exceptional healthcare they have earned and deserve, and that mission will continue to be my primary focus.”

Donna Beiter, Director
VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System

If ever there's been a more unwavering indictment against Donna M. Beiter and her blatant lies and abuse of the public trust, this statement is Exhibit A.

Ms. Beiter, who is not a Veteran, openly and brazenly lies to Veterans, their families, and the general public about not having any knowledge of the biggest land-fraud scandal in American history, even though she aided and abetted in it and is a co-defendant in the attached ACLU lawsuit that brought about the federal judgment against her and co-defendant Eric K. Shinseki for misappropriating Federal VA property.

New VA Secretary Robert A. McDonald now replaces Mr. Shinseki as co-defendant with Ms. Beiter, even though he had nothing to do with this shameful scandal that misappropriated Veterans land and facilities for non-Veteran use, forcing tens of thousands of war-injured and impoverished Veterans to be homeless and hungry in Los Angeles.

On Monday, the Los Angeles VA will hold its Town Hall meeting as mandated by Secretary McDonald.  The meeting is for Veterans, their families or beneficiaries, and to engage in open dialogue with VA management, i.e. Ms. Beiter.

When the executive director of the largest VA in the nation has two federal judgments entered against her — one for violating a Veterans constitutional right to free speech — and she blatantly lies about having any knowledge of a GAO report exposing her own mismanagement and malfeasance involving a second federal judgment, how can any Veteran, his or her family or beneficiary expect to have the opportunity to speak freely and be honestly heard, and to trust Ms. Beiter's response?

The answer is simple: You can't.

Accordingly, Secretary McDonald must immediately terminate Ms. Beiter if there's to be any semblance of trust at the Monday meeting.

God Bless America and the Veterans Revolution!
