Moms and Dads – I Want to Know Where Your Licenses Are

Mike HennesseyOP-ED

Dateline Dayton — Something has to be done. I have been advocating the need for a license in order to have children.  I didn't stop with just the birth mother, but requiring a license for anyone caring for a child, no matter the relationship.

This week here in Dayton, a seven-month-old was mauled to death by his step-grandmother’s dog.  Although the dog was a pit bull, and I personally would never own one, I don't blame the dog for the problem.

A child should not be allowed to be near any dog or animal. You never know what the animal is going to do.  Yesterday, one of CUC's employees had to leave to take his year-old daughter to the doctor after their dog bit her.  They are looking for a new home for their dog.  Even with the ages of our grandchildren, we still caution them about roughhousing with Jake.

I read that the Tampa police are investigating the possibility that a two-year-old was tossed from a car.  How can people do such terrible things to children?  Our children were raised by the book. Every once in while it was necessary to use the book on them.  Discipline is one thing, abuse another.

Then there are the parents who kept their boys in the basement.  We sure need something if it isn't a licensing.

These are situations I heard about. How many others are there each day in our country?

On Basketball

I see where Donald Sterling might still be the owner of the Los Angeles Clippers for the coming season.  Major league sports has no gumption. It provides a poor image to the youth of the world.  Even if Mr. Sterling is pursuing has case in court, the NBA could solve the problem by just not scheduling any games with the Clippers until the matter is resolved.

All major league sports thinks about is the almighty dollar. What they allow players and owner, to get away with is wrong.  They tolerate abuse, drinking, drugs, fighting.  Any player involved in any improper behavior, should be banned from the sport.

Major league sports should ban spiting on the playing field as well as in the public view, remembering that the camera can be everywhere. Disgusting to see these athletics spitting all over the place while we are trying to enjoy the game.

Sure like my Dayton Dragons.
