A Red, White and Blue Way to Spend a Holiday

Dateline Dayton — Pauline and I, along with our son Chris celebrated the Fourth of July with our condo association.

Chris and I started the morning in the garage, moving and rearranging. By noon, we were able to get at least one car in the garage, a major accomplishment.

At 1 o'clock we attended a flag ceremony at the clubhouse, followed by a small but enthusiastic parade.  A few Boy Scouts were there, one carrying a flag, along with their leader, a red convertible, a white convertible, followed by a blue one.

Behind the cars were riders on decorated bicycles, and a decorated wagon carrying a youngster who was being pulled by dad.  Even Elvis participated in our parade, riding his bike.

Later in the afternoon there was a cookout around the pool.  Each family brought a dish to share, with hot dogs and drinks being provided by the association.  A very nice party with plenty of good food, especially desserts.

Saturday morning I was back in the garage for a short time, trying to complete the remolding project I have been working on since we moved into the condo.  I only had a short time, since we were going to our granddaughter Maddi’s birthday party, at 11:30 in Cincinnati.

Since the party was at the pool Maddi’s family belongs to, I made sure I got directions off the computer.  We drove up and down this road three time looking for the street the directions said we needed to turn left onto. We could not find a street by the name on the instructions.

I then got out the GPS, which I should have used in the first place, and it took us right to the pool.  The only problem with our GPS is that sometimes is loses the satellite signal and doesn't return quietly.  For that reason I like to have directions off the computer, which normally are accurate.

Sunday we went to church, out to breakfast, then did a couple errands.  Later in the afternoon, after a short nap, we headed to Piqua to drop off a few more items to store at my sister's.  Hopefully her neighbor will be having his garage sale soon so I can get all my stuff out of her way.

After the car was unloaded, the four of us headed to the village of Botkins for a delicious chicken dinner.  We were back home shortly after 10.

Worse Than Cell Phones

Last week I wrote about cell phone, telling you about my experiences at church and the ballpark.  Last night I experienced something worse than cell phones at the ballpark.  The two guys seated next me were chewing tobacco. Most of you probably know what goes along with chewing tobacco, spitting, of which they were doing a great job of it. On the pavement in front of their seats.  There were two attractive girls with them and I really don't know how they put up with the disgusting spitting and messes.

I'll take cell phones over tobacco any day.  Although the use of cell phones can be annoying, they don't make a mess
