On Saturday, Jan. 13, Culver City will host The Beloved Community: Justice, Faith, Hope, a celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

The Senior Center will host the three-hour program that starts at 12 noon.

“Culver City is inspired by the work of Dr. King,” said Mayor Jeff Cooper.

“He committed his life to the pursuit of equality and justice for all. He used peaceful means to teach social justice.”

The theme of the 13th Dr. King celebration event centers on a philosophy of what makes a community thrive — justice, faith and hope.

Highlights include a community conversation with Frank Dawson, dean of Career and Technical Education of Santa Monica College, who directed the film “Agents of Change,” Rev. Dr. Frances Wattman Rosenau of the Culver City Presbyterian Church, and Lt. Troy Dunlap, community relations specialist for the Police Dept.

They will be joined by Culver City High School students Sencere Watson, president  of the Black Students Union, and Zebida Abduselam, Associate Student Body representative.

Actor Gerald C. Rivers will deliver a dramatic rendition of Dr. King’s I Have a Dream Speech, and there will be aa screening of the film Agents of Change.

The event is free and open to the public.
