Re “Camarella Sees Police as ‘Complicit’”
Tom Camarella cannot understand why explosive events surrounding Charlottesville, so obvious to him and millions of Americans, elude leaders.
“Our own president would not even say that what happened was racist or a problem,” said the fiery but baffled activist.
“He was saying the trouble came from both sides.
“My goodness!
“Remember, the night before (the rioting), these people were in a church, and the racists were out there with torches.
“They scared the hell out of the people. What do you think?”
Mr. Camarella was asked if there is a way to prevent a repeat of Charlottesville.
Or will human nature break through the wall?
The activist who strongly criticized police for being “complicit” in the violence two weeks ago said that in the future, “the police cannot be complacent.
“They cannot hold back until there is a major melee going on.
“They know, without a doubt,” said Mr. Camarella, “what is going to happen.
“They should have been totally prepared this time. There should not have been away for the car that killed the pedestrian to get up to that speed.”
Mr. Camarella believes perceived police complacency is a nationwide problem.
