Re “Super Enthusiasm for the New School Year”

“Everything is ready for our students to come back,” says a constantly energized Leslie Lockhart, interim superintendent of the School District.

Before discussing this evening’s School Board Workshop targeting the replacement for the fast-vanishing Natatorium, Ms. Lockhart turned to the immediate schedule.

Registration is under way this week for the Middle School and Culver City High School.

This is Day Two of Middle School registering, which concludes Wednesday.

For Culver High, signups start on Wednesday and finish by Friday.

The New Teacher Institute also is convened this week, and that will be followed by three days of Welcome Back, starting Wednesday, Aug. 23.

“I want to make sure our facilities are prepared for our students,” Ms. Lockhart said. “We still have a lot of projects going on.

“The Natatorium is coming down,” and that provided a gateway to the topic of the day, this evening’s 6:30 Board Workshop in the Board Room at District headquarters on Irving Place.

The teardown of the late swimming emporium is due to be completed in a few days.

Next question: What will succeed the soon-empty space between the Middle School and Farragut Elementary?

Dr. Arnold had revealed in June, just ahead of his departure, that a two-story Science Building would host classes for the Middle School and Culver High.

That, evidently, has turned into an oops.

Exploring the most desirable options for the space will be a central focus of the workshop.
