The tight friendship between Scott and Leslie Wyant and Jim and Diana Solomon goes back decades — to when their daughters started school at Farragut Elementary.

Their closeness and fondness grew like a sweet-scented rose garden that always is in bloom.

“Diana helped Scott tremendously” in his campaign for the City Council last year, Mr. Solomon said.

Mr. Wyant, who died last week following a year’s illness, opened his five-month campaign at the home of the Solomons.

“We volunteered our house for his headquarters, and then for his kickoff,” Mr. Solomon said.

“Scott was brilliant, just brilliant. And he loved what he did,” first in the entertainment industry, later as a computer maven and as a member of the Planning Commission.

He mentioned Mr. Wyant’s years of seasoning on the Planning Commission, which seemed to ideally position him for a City Council run.

Mr. Wyant was an ideal Commissioner, Mr. Solomon said, because he was curious. He was a learner, a dedicated student. He wanted to know how everything worked.

“Scott developed a real good feel for the way the Commission operated, for the building department and for development,” Mr. Solomon said.

“Scott was just a bright man. He really wanted to make Culver City the best place to live.”

That was not a slick campaign slogan – Mr. Wyant authentically loved the community where he spent nearly all of his adult years.
