Re: “Azran’s Way of Saying Thank You”
How do you build a sparkling three-decade career with the Culver City Police Dept.?
“I landed here purely by chance,” says 50-year-old Valley boy Allen Azran, who retired recently as the acting assistant police chief.
“I was chomping at the bit to become a police officer,” he says. “Soon as I was of an age to apply, I did, to a variety of police departments. LAPD, Culver City P.D. Glendale P.D.”
Fate?
Mr. Azran recalls that Culver City, under Chief Ted Cooke, by now a legend, tendered an offer three or four months before the LAPD did.
“I was always told by people who knew the profession, ‘Go with the first agency that hires you.’
“So I did, even though I did not know much about Culver City,” said Mr. Azran, who is exploring new law enforcement opportunities.
“I had come to the ice rink a few times. And I had always been around the area because I had family in West Hollywood and West Los Angeles.
“So for no reason other than that they were hiring, I came here, and what a blessing it has been. Unbelievable.”
