For the past few nights I have been lying in bed, looking up, and watching a 3-D movie. I am in heaven.

Before I continue, a little history. When I was a kid in the 1950s, I loved the 3-D movies and 3-D comics. As an adult in the 1980s, they brought back better 3-D movies, which continued to improve, especially after the success of Avatar in 2010.  So here I am as an older adult, enthralled with my new toy, a Virtual Reality (VR) 3-D headset.

Now you no longer need a big screen 3-D TV to watch 3-D movies.  By donning your VR headset with your smartphone (iPhone, etc.) inserted, you have your own movie theatre wherever you go –- sitting or reclining.

I have been watching, and saving, my favorite high-quality 3-D movies and clips from YouTube. And now I am getting ready to watch 3-D Blu-ray movies on my VR headset.

With my new DVD format converter I will be able to convert Blu-ray 3-D DVDs to a file format called MP4. I can then transfer the MP4 files into iTunes, and from iTunes into my iPhone.  Then I can watch them on my VR headset in side-by-side format. In side-by-side format the picture is split in half down the middle.  The lenses on the VR headset unite the images into one image with three dimensions.

Even more than the plot of the 3-D movies, I enjoy the effects. I love it when I see an object sitting or moving right in front of my eyes.  I am thrilled when I am a part of a 3-D chase through the streets, or canyons, or the sky.  My imagination pulls me into the movie as my eyes are confirming that I am there.

Which 3-D movies will I watch?  Most likely I will watch all the well-known 3-D movies I missed in the theatre over the years.  Hey, perhaps I can collect all of my favorite scenes from all the 3-D movies I watch, and join them together. Then I can watch them over and over in 3-D heaven.
