In Memory of Uncle Syd

[Editor’s Note: Dr. Hoult read this tribute to Culver City’s late legendary director of Parks and Recreation at last evening’s City Council meeting.]

Our city has lost a giant
A man who gave us his all
And who would that be I hear you say?
Why none other than Syd Kronenthal

Uncle Syd loved his job in our city
He worked hard to help us grow
Into a community we are proud of
We all were his family, you know

He worked to expand our boundaries
To reach out beyond cultural norms
It was important to our community
So our Sister City Committee was formed

Recreation and parks for our citizens
For Syd were a top priority
With his help there are 14 parks
Right here within Culver City
Syd’s spirit is part of our city
So this coming Hallowe’en
As the children trick or treat
His spirit will be on the scene

Listing his many accomplishments
Would take reams and reams of paper
So as we swim in the pool
and walk in a park

Let’s give thanks we had Syd
to give us the spark
That has made Culver City so much greater…
