When Culver City High School’s

cross country team ran in the Ocean League cluster meet No. 2 at Rancho Park last Thursday, nine boys and four girls set personal bests.

The varsity boys were led by senior Abraham Vazquez, clocking in at 16:32.97, followed closely by junior Max Flynn at 16:35.15.

Freshman Brandon Cummings also broke the 17-minute barrier, running a personal best 16:54.25.

Personal bests for the boys were all set in the freshmen boys’ race by Aidan Kim. He ran 18:10.42 with a second place finish. Desi Dickson clocked18:29.01 for a sixth place finish.

Additionally, in the freshmen boys’ race, personal bests were set by Nicholas Falk, Siddarth Gupta, Kyle Van Slye, Adam Teclezghi, Eli Lane and Luke Daily.

While not setting a personal best, James Dimeo finished fifth in the freshmen boys race, at 18:21.74. Evan Pearson placed 10th, running 18:33.92 to give Culver City four runners in the top 10 finishers.

Going into the league finals on Wednesday, Nov. 4, the boys’ varsity team must finish ahead of either Santa Monica or El Segundo to advance to the CIF prelims.

The Lady Centaurs were led, as usual, by senior Rhina Padilla, sophomore Eden Winslow and Ella Roche-Wills. The team’s third place finish overall pretty much assured them of advancing to the CIF prelims.

Personal bests were set by freshmen Evelyn Grijalva, Romi Takara, Lola Marinko Beale and sophomore Ella (Raphaella) Del Rosario.

Next race for Culver City is the Mt. San Antonio College Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 24, beginning at 3.
