Dateline Dayton — Our daughter Darlene arrived with her two girls and a boyfriend last Friday for a wedding the next day.

First move, as usual, was a trip to Marion’s for pizza. Normally we don’t do pizza on Friday because we can’t use our 25 percent discount coupon.

Although it was almost 8 o’clock, Marion’s was so busy. I told a worker I thought everyone would be at a ball game. “Wait until the games are over,” he said. “Been this busy all evening.”

Still, the wait for our pizza was not long. Not a crumb survived our three large pizzas.

At 9 Saturday morning, we were at our granddaughter Madison’s soccer match. She is not a great player, but she was on the field for almost the entire time. Their team won 10-0 and Madison made a goal. ten to nothing and Madison even scored a goal.

I took everyone to lunch at Doubleday, where our daughter suggested. No complaints. I shouldn’t have received any either. Doubleday’s is good, and they serve a lot.

Mid-afternoon, we were on our way to Piqua for my nephew’s wedding. It was outside at the Orr estate, which has been turned into an events center. They use a large tent to host receptions. Although I was born and raised in Piqua, I never had been to the Orr estate. A beautiful setting, a gorgeous home, not yet open to the public.

The weather, often problematic at this time of year, cooperated. The only problems were the minister started rereading part of the ceremony and Justin’s son almost fainted. The reception that followed was nice, with good food.

This week has been spent going through things Pauline or I might be interested in selling. My friend Dan is having his annual garage sale and asked me to set up with him. I took advantage of the opportunity because I have National Cash Register items I don’t need. I could use extra cash. In 10 days, we are leaving on vacation. We also went through our Christmas decorations, 25 percent of them are going to the sale.

Pauline told a neighbor I was setting up a garage sale and she asked if I would take her railroad lantern. Maybe it would sell. Old, but I think having been repainted will hurt its resale value.

Dan’s garage sales generate a lot of traffic, but it’s late in the year and the weather is scheduled to be cold. A freeze is even in the forecast for Sunday night. The sale starts on Friday and will end on Sunday afternoon.
