Not Much of a Fan, but I Do Have Opinions

Dateline Dayton — I am not much of a sports fan. Still, I do check to see if the Cincinnati Reds have won or lost, who has won the weekend golf tournament and who the winning NASCAR driver was. During football season, I follow the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Bengals. During basketball season, the University of Dayton Flyers. Usually, though, I don’t watch the games.

I have mentioned often in my essays that Pauline and I attend the Dayton Dragons’ baseball games on a regular basis. We have a 17-game package — plus we always find tickets for a few other games during the season. We have a great time attending their games, a good evening of entertainment.

Even though I am not much of a fan, I do have opinions. I have written about the poor example some major league athletes set for our young people. I have come up with one finding regarding football players, either they have been banged around too much on field or have other problems. Any player who would get involved with fireworks has a problem.

Take the professional football player who injured his hand playing with fireworks, jeopardizing a $60 million contract. How can you explain such behavior? Or the golfer, who injured his foot playing soccer. He will not be able to play in the next tournament. Most of us have done stupid things. I got poison ivy and missed a week of work. I fell out of my seat at a Dragons game trying to retrieve a foul ball. I injured my foot.

Flag This Item

How many people are needed to take a flag down? In South Carolina, a lot. I have an easy solution. Ask the custodian to take the Confederate flag down and lose it.

Bill Cosby has proven the saying “where there’s smoke, there’s fire” is correct. At one time I really respected Mr. Cosby, even attending a show when he was in Dayton. What a disappointment. I am pleased to see the actions being taken.

I have no idea who Ariana Grande is, although I read she is a popular singer. I understand she hates America and will not be performing next week at the All-Star Game in Cincinnati. Great! I would happy to contribute towards the purchase of a one-way ticket to the country of her choice. I can suggest a few.

Weather Thou Goest

I wish there was some way I could send California the rain we are having. Then a television star wouldn’t need to steal water. Send the truck here. We have had rain about every day this week. Rain already is forecast for next week.

Hope it isn’t raining tomorrow night. We are going to the Dragons game.
