Dateline Dayton — I took last Friday as a vacation day to work with our son Chris, to finish his projects. We accomplished a lot, included the master bath, except for the closet. Looks nice. Chris posted a picture on his Facebook page.
While the plumber was installing the toilet and sink in the master bath, he also put in shut-off valves for the vanity in the other bathroom so he could remove the tiling. I believe flooring should be under everything possible. I do not like to move a stove and find there no flooring there. That is the situation in our unit and in Chris’s.
Saturday morning I went back to our son’s thinking I would be able to complete the tiling of the second bathroom. After breaking three tiles trying to cut the last piece, I decided it was best to wait until another day.
Saturday afternoon, Pauline and I attended a memorial service for our friend Suzie. She fought a hard battle, and she always was optimistic, cheerful, during her long ordeal. Larry, her husband and caregiver, sometimes was referred to as the purse carrier. Suzie did not like the term caregiver. Larry provided an outstanding memorial service and celebration of her life.
Afterward, we drove to Piqua. My brother-in-law Willie was in the hospital. My sister had told me earlier in the week that she felt he had pneumonia. He did. Thursday night he went to the emergency room and was admitted. He was well enough to leave on Sunday. He was told to walk every day.
After church and breakfast on Sunday, we went to see Pauline’s brother. He is doing well in rehab. Hopefully he soon will return to his room in assisted living. Our visit was cut short. He wanted lunch on the assisted living side.
It was a beautiful day – no rain until late evening. We drove to Waynesville, visiting a couple stores. I ran into my friend Antique John. We accompanied him to his store where he had appealing items in display cases and booths. One especially interested me but I must make certain I don’t have a duplicate.
Back home, I cut the grass and did a little yard work. In the evening, we went to Marion’s for pizza.
On Monday we had tickets for the Dragons game. It rained in the morning when I left for work at 6:30. Off and on all day. The sun shined for a few minutes. Although it was overcast, we left for the game. On a beautiful evening for a ball game, the Dragons won 9-2.
At my class breakfast yesterday, we celebrated Christmas in July because we didn’t have a party in December. Lots of fun. All five of us appreciated our white elephant gifts. We always have a good time when we get-together, even if only a few of us are there.
Commentary – I was so disappointed that the golfer Phil Mickelson was being linked to an illegal gambling scheme. I have held Phil in high esteem. I believed he had high moral standards. I was impressed when he left a golf tournament to attend his daughter’s birthday party. I hope the allegations are not true.
Part II — This has been quite a week for our country with the decisions handed down by the Supreme Court. We have Obamacare and a new definition for marriage. Top that off by Donald Trump being fired and supposedly Pete Rose bet on baseball, while he was a player. What is next?
