Tyler Mark, former Culver City High School baseball player, was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the sixth round of last week’s first-year player draft.
Mark played three years for Coach Rick Prieto’s Centaurs, graduating in 2012.
Mark attended Cal State Dominguez Hills and Concordia University, Irvine.
This baseball season, while playing for Concordia, Mark was 5-1 with a 1.24 earned run average.
He gave up only seven earned runs in 51 innings. He appeared in 38 games as a reliever and set an NAIA single season record with 24 saves.
During the off-season, Mark played for the Venice Boys and Girls Club in the Reviving Baseball in the Inner Cities program. Sponsored by the Dodgers and Major League Baseball, this exposes potential major league prospects to strong competition and major league scouts.
At Culver City, Mark was 9-2 as a senior, 6-4 as a junior and 3-2 as a sophomore pitcher. His career earned run average was 2.14. He recorded 184 strikeouts in 157 innings. He batted .338 as a senior, .325 as a junior and .290 as a sophomore.
