Dateline Dayton –– Pauline and I were so busy last Saturday. After an early breakfast we went to a neighborhood garage sale, not so much for the merchandise but to visit an old friend who sets up these events. Dottie provides us with all the news about people we know. And we learn what is going on in her life.

Later, I headed over to my son Chris’s place to work on the bathroom. Pauline visited her brother, who still is in the hospital. I did cut our grass and planted the flowers we purchased at the garage sale.

By 3 o’clock, it was time to get ready for an early supper at the Pine Club. Our friends in Florida gave us a gift certificate to Dayton’s best steakhouse. We were not disappointed.

We drove to the Dayton Racino to watch the Belmont Stakes. I decided to bet so thatr I would have a winning ticket as a souvenir. Little did I realize that to collect your winnings, you forfeit your ticket. Had I known, I would have purchased two tickets. With my $5 wager and my $3.75 winnings, I bought an $8 program to have something from this historic race.

We invested time at the penny slot machine we like. Happily I can say Pauline won more than I lost or spent at the Racino.

Next stop was the Victoria Theatre where our son Chris was singing there with the Dayton Gay Men’s Chorus. The program, “A Broadway Revue,” was outstanding. They also had Jennifer Holliday on the program, but I didn’t think her presence was necessary, although many in the audience did. Neither of us is a fan of her singing style of singing.

After church and breakfast on Sunday, we were at the hospital, checking on the status of my brother-in-law Joe. He was sound asleep. Pauline could not awaken him. According to the nurse, he has days and nights in reverse order. Pauline checked about what is taking place, learning that he would be in surgery on the next morning. She was upset that she hadn’t been notified, but after learning details, she felt better.

The surgery went well, but he still is in the hospital.

Yesterday I was hoping that I would have all the tile down in Chris’s bathroom, but I broke a tile, which I had spent time cutting. So I waited until another day. I completed more chores and squeezed in a nap between phone calls.

Have a great day!
