I Died and Went to TV Heaven

Five months ago I decided to save money by switching our TV programming from DirecTV to Time Warner.  I was going to save dollars by bundling TV, Internet, and telephone with Time Warner.

Alas, little did I know just how much I would miss DirecTV’s DVR box.  I mean there is absolutely no comparison.  The DirecTV box recorded four shows at once, and almost never ran out of space.  The Time Warner box, on the other hand, recorded only two shows at a time and even with that, my shows often got knocked off the recording schedule!

It made me so frustrated that my almost-daily evening rant was “I can’t wait to go back to DirecTV!”

Why didn’t I resolve the issue and return immediately to DirecTV?  Greed.  Yes, I was to receive a $300 VISA gift card for staying with Time Warner for three months, plus another ninety days of processing time.

Thank the Lord when the VISA card arrived!  The first thing I did was to run out to the market to test the card’s authenticity.  The second thing I did was to call DirecTV and schedule the hook-up of my TV service.

It was fantastic. The day after the hookup, I was in TV Heaven!  I could now record and watch the ABC, NBC, and CBS News, as well as Megyn Kelly.

The day after that, Monday, I was cursing again.  DirecTV would not get any TV channels.  The woman on the phone line could only schedule my repair service for Thursday.

It is now Wednesday, and my wife and I have survived our TV isolation by watching the news and Megyn Kelly on our iPad.  And Amazon Prime allowed us to watch a movie last night.

DirecTV promises a $200 gift card.  Should I argue with them that it should be increased to $300 for my viewing trouble?

Hey, you know what?  As long as DirecTV is fixed and works well, I will be happy.

If it doesn’t work well, I may just eschew TV providers altogether, and watch TV on the iPad with my wife.  After all, what could be more cuddly?
