Four Cooper Supporters Make a Case for Council Hopeful

Letters to the EditorLetters

Jeff Cooper is the only City Council candidate to make the preservation of Brotman Hospital in our community a top priority. I know from personal experience that when minutes count, ready access to a hospital Emergency Room can be the difference between life and death. Two years ago, if it were it not for the heroic efforts of our Fire Dept. and the close proximity of emergency care facilities at Brotman Hospital , I would not be here today to tell this story.

As the news has reported, Brotman Hospital has filed for bankruptcy protection and may be on the brink of closing. In direct response, Jeff Cooper took action by organizing a citizens’ walk to save Boatman Hospital. Similar to other things Jeff has done in our community, such as founding Friends of the Culver City Dog Park, this action was not about promoting the candidate, but rather about getting the job done.
I believe that this is the same ethic he will bring to the City Council and that is why I am highly recommending a vote for Jeff Cooper on April 8t.

Not Fancy, Just Do the Job

From Dr. Michael Cousineau

I support Jeff Cooper for several reasons. Jeff is not interested in slogans and labels. He is a “ let’s-get- things-done kind of guy.

He is practical, a problem solver, and the world’s best listener. We don’t have time for a City Council that only talks about problem-solving.

We need someone who has the skills and the experience to understand a problem, and to work with the residents and other members of the Council to solve it.

The Dog Park, saving green space in the city’s parks and opening a skate park, the car show, and more. These are all Jeff’s work. Can you imagine how good Culver City will be if Jeff’s energy can be put to the task as a member of the City Council? I can and that is why I am voting for Jeff Cooper.

Dr. Cousineau is Associate Professor of Research and the Director of the Center for Community Health Studies, USC Keck School of Medicine.

The Man Behind the Dog Park

From Michael Whitaker

I have known and worked in our community with Jeff Cooper for seven years.

In my experience, Jeff is a man who knows how to get things done. In 2001, pet owners in the community were calling for the development of a local dog park.

Instead of waiting for others to take the lead, Jeff established a citizens’ group called” Friends of the Culver City Dog Park” to get the job done. The result is a privately-funded dog park that has become a model for communities throughout the region.

All of the candidates for City Council talk about the actions they want to take if they are elected. Jeff is one of the few candidates who actually has taken actions to better our community. I believe that we want elected officials who talk less and act more. I think that Jeff Cooper has proven time and again he is that candidate.

A Man Who Fulfills Promises

From Michael Snell

Through my involvement with Culver City Exchange Club, I have been privileged to work side-by-side with Jeff Cooper for nearly 15 years. As a public service organization, we rely on our members to work for the charities we support. Some folks make big promises they never intend to keep. The difference with Jeff is that he never makes a promise that he can’t keep.

As a past President of the Exchange Club, Jeff led by example. Jeff tirelessly guided us to some of our greatest charitable achievements. For example, during Jeff’s presidency, we hosted one of our most successful Fourth of July Fireworks Shows ever. When the club was searching for new fundraising ideas, Jeff conceived the “Cruisin’ Back to the Fifties Car Show,” that now is held annually every Mother’s Day weekend.

As the event’s sole Producer, Jeff is responsible for organizing every aspect of the show from attracting exhibitors and obtaining business support to coordinating police and traffic control in both Culver City and Los Angeles.

Last year, with more than 10,000 people in attendance, Jeff’s charity car show became the biggest single day event hosted in our community. Jeff’s track record in activities like these has shown me that he is the right man to lead our community into the future. That’s why I’m voting Jeff Cooper for City Council.
