Ballona Nature Walk

With spring migration here, the Wetlands Action Network  — which protects and restores wetlands along the Pacific Migratory Pathways — is sponsoring its regular nature walk.
Del Rey Lagoon Park, on Pacific Avenue, Playa del Rey, is the starting point, and  the walk is one and a half miles.
Sand dunes, lagoons, the Ballona Creek Estuary, the Ballona Saltmarsh, wetlands  transition areas and beautiful birds will be  available for the  viewing.
Hundreds of black-bellied plovers are still along Ballona Creek and in the salt pans of the Ballona Wetlands. A few Bufflehead are still at Del Rey Lagoon.
In addition to comfortable walking shoes, participants are asked to bring water, a hat, sunscreen and l;ayered clothing for weather that remains unpredictable this spring.

Del Rey Lagoon Park can be reached by traveling west on Culver Boulevard, from the end of the Marina Freewaym through the Ballona Wetlands, through Playa del rey, almost to the sand on Toes Beach. Turn right on Pacific. Go past the basketball courts and picnic tables on the right, and meet in the park’s parking lot. 310.821.9045.
