A Recorded Message

Through generous grants from the Culver City Education Foundation and the AVPA Foundation, AVPA music students have been working on a recording project throughout the year with musician and recording engineer Jay Laura.

Mr. Laura has been teaching the students how to use the industry standard ProTools system, as well as helping them write, edit, and master their songs. The project has resulted in a CD, also called "MY Generation." A Hearing Opportunity

Nearly all the tracks on the CD are original songs by the students themselves, and many of them will be performed at the showcase. The CD will be available for a suggested donation of $10.

The students selected the "MY Generation" theme for the showcase because it symbolizes the individual and collective expression of today’s youth through music.

Value of Experience

AVPA’s co-executive director and head of the music program, Tony Spano, realizes the value of the process the students have gone through in preparation for this showcase and the debut of their CD.

According to Mr. Spano, "It has been an exciting journey for our students to work with Jay—recording, listening and reworking music throughout this whole process. What a valuable lesson for the students to learn the technical and creative sides of recording."
